Welcome! Hello to all new mailing list members! Thanks for
your interest in my ministry. I appreciate your support.
Please stop by at www.dereksandstrom.com to see what there
is to see at my website. You'll find my bio, schedule, and
links to my music. Click away! If anyone should wish to
leave the mailing list, just shoot me an email and I'll
take you off. I know we all get a lot of things we don't
really have time to read, and I don't want these mailings
to fit into that category. No hard feelings!

Derek at #23 on the Indieheaven Radio Chart! I'm part of
a group for independent Christian musicians. It's called
Indieheaven. You can visit them at http://www.indieheaven.com.
One of the features of their site is what they call the
Indieheaven Radio Chart. Artists like me submit our songs
to be put on the charts, and then people like you visit
and rate them. Today as I write this I am at #23 out of
168! I am so grateful to those of you who voted so far...once
and done, once a day, or somewhere in between. It all adds
up. Currently my song "Your Time" is the one on
the charts. "Today" made it to #39 in 90 days,
and "Your Time" has surpassed that. So I encourage
you to visit http://www.indieheaven.com and click the big
radio tower. It will take you to the charts. Then you scroll
down and find "Your Time" by Derek Sandstrom.
Click the title, and it should begin playing. Then scroll
back up to find my picture (thanks, Curtis!) and the song
info. You'll see 5 stars. If you roll over them from left
to right, you will light up all 5. Then click to vote, and
help "Your Time" continue to climb!
Why all the fuss? Because if the song climbs high enough,
more people will hear it. Maybe some of them will like it
enough to want to find out about booking me to play at their
church. I like that! It gives me a chance to share what
God has done for me, and it keeps my ministry going. So
please vote as often as you feel you'd like to, and while
you're there, check out the other artists and their widely
varied styles. Maybe you'll find some new favorites!

Traveling With the Sheri Curse: Our Trip to San Antonio.
Our family has a tradition. The four of us, along with Sheri's
parents, Ed and Betty Lou, and her brother, Curtis, and
his wife, Kim (see http://www.curtisandkim.com), all go
on a vacation together in the winter. This year we went
to San Antonio, TX, and LOVED it. What a beautiful city!
We had plenty to do and enjoy, the city was clean, people
were friendly, and we could never run out of fantastic Mexican
restaurants to visit, even if we stayed for months! The
Riverwalk was especially beautiful. But there's just one
problem. We are operating under something we've come to
know as the Sheri Curse. Now, we're not superstitious people.
We don't believe in curses and voodoo and stuff like that.
But we can't help but notice that every time Sheri travels
to a warm location, it turns cold or inclement in some other
way. We pick places that SHOULD allow us to thaw out a little
during the Pennsylvania winter. So, there was the time we
went to Los Angeles, and found ice on our car in the morning!
Ice in LA! Or the time we enjoyed whale watching in San
Diego in our fleece and winter coats, hats, and gloves!
And this was no different. 40s everyday but one, where we
enjoyed a comfortable 65 degrees.
It's funny how whenever we show up anywhere people apologize
for the weather. "I'm so sorry...it's not usually like
this!" "That's okay," we reply. "It's
not your fault!" It's our fault, we think to ourselves.
And it's not just during the winter, either. Let's not forget
Sheri's and my wedding day...in a hurricane! Or the time
we got our legs sand blasted on the beach in Ocean City,
NJ, during high winds! Or how about the only time in recorded
history that it snowed in Ruskin, FL? You guessed it, Sheri
and her family were driving in. Or when we took a long weekend
getaway to Virginia Beach over President's Day weekend...and
had to stay an extra day because of the blizzard of the
century! We came home to 24 inches of snow. When we could
get home, that is. People in Buffalo may scoff, but for
central PA, that's a lot.
So, what's my recommendation? If you hear the Sandstroms
are coming to your town, it might be a good time for a vacation!
But send a dozen or so people to my concert first, of course!
;-)
